Our Story
McKinney Insurance Agency was founded in July 1939 by George McKinney in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Starting out, George had access to a small selection of insurance companies with General Insurance Company - now known as Safeco Insurance - being the primary. When World War II broke out, George was called to serve and his wife, Lillie Mae, helped to run the business in his place.
George was later joined in the business by his son Robert “Bob” McKinney in 1956 when Bob returned from military service in Korea. Together, with the help of Bob’s wife, Julia Ann, they operated the business until George’s death in 1962.
Bob’s third son, Richard McKinney, joined the business in 1977 and has been active as an owner-operator since 1996. His wife, LaNita, also joined in 1984 and became co-owner in 1997. Bob semi-retired but stayed active in the business until his passing in 2013.
Sonya Biggerstaff was brought on at the agency in 2013 to help with the day-to-day agency operations. Then Rick & LaNita’s oldest daughter, Paisley McKinney, joined the business in 2015 to aid in agency operations & production. She plans to take over the business upon Rick & LaNita’s retirement.
The McKinney Insurance Agency has served Northwest Arkansas for over eighty years & four generations of family. Today it remains a family-owned & operated independent insurance business that offers several types of insurance to cover a broad market of needs.
